LGBTQ+ is illegal in Ghana: Educate Africa Institute Press Release

The Educate Africa Institute (EAI) has, in a press release, confirmed that LGBTQ+ activities are not legal in Ghana. Below is the full release. The “LGBTQ+ is illegal in Ghana’ press release comes after some LGBTQ+ defied odds to showcase their act by taking historic photos at Ghana’s Black Star Square. The pictures which went viral after have been condemned by the Ghanaian people since LGBTQ+ activities are contrary to the laws of the country.
LGBTQ+ IS AGAINST OUR VALUES: LET’S APPLY COMMON SENSE, NOT HUMAN RIGHTS – Gregory Diaw Addae, EAI
Same-sex sexual acts are illegal in Ghana, which is why the majority of Ghanaians hold anti-LGBTQ+ views, and this is a step in the right direction. Educate Africa Institute (EAI) fully supports the anti-LGBTQ+ stance. Although our constitution guarantees freedom of speech, expression, and assembly, it does not mean we should allow such groups to operate in Ghana, a nation under God. As a country, we must not attribute LGBTQ+ practices to human rights, as these practices are against our values and have no place in our society.
Statements from the President alone cannot stop these operations; only positive actions can. Same-sex sexual conduct is a criminal act under Ghanaian law, specifically under Chapter 6, Section 104(1)(b) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as amended, which states that anyone who engages in such acts should be arrested and punished. Therefore, we cannot tolerate LGBTQ+ activities in our country.
Furthermore, such practices are alien to our customs and traditions. In the olden days, individuals who exhibited such behaviours were sent into the wilderness as punishment. We must return to our ancient values and traditions, guided by common sense, to deal with those who advocate for and promote these practices. Our customary laws frown upon LGBTQ+ activities, and they must not be entertained in Ghana or Africa at large.
Moreover, homosexuality is against the will of God, as Leviticus 20:13 states: “If a man practises homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both have committed a detestable act; they must be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offence.”

Finally, Educate Africa Institute (EAI) advises the government and the general public to reject LGBTQ+ practices, reflecting on our values, customs, and norms, and to take positive action against the practitioners and promoters of LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana.
