Engineering students at all levels of education, from Bachelor’s to Ph.D., can apply for a lot of scholarships. Most students don’t know about these scholarship opportunities, which is a problem.
So, in this post, we’ll list the best scholarships for engineering students from Africa and other countries to study abroad.
Some of these scholarships are funded by the government, while others are given out by universities, non-governmental organizations, and multinational companies.
You must apply for a scholarship before the deadline if you want to get one. Applications sent after the deadline won’t be taken into consideration.

List of scholarships for African students who want to study engineering
The Science by Women program will pay for ten experienced African women researchers to spend six months doing research at one of the following international research centers in Spain.
Young women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields can apply for the Goldman Sachs Grace Hopper Full-Funded Scholarship.
The Goldman Sachs Grace Hopper Scholarship will be given to 25 female engineers who have done well in school, are good leaders, and have a strong desire to learn and solve problems.

The Gus Archie Undergraduate Scholarship Program
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Foundation gives the Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship to the best student who is going to college to get an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering. This is done through the SPE Section Scholarship Support Program and with individual candidates.
International Masters Scholarship from the University of Edinburgh School of Engineering
The scholarships will be given to international (non-EU) students who have been accepted into a full-time postgraduate taught Master’s program in the School of Engineering and who meet other criteria.
Scholarships from the Newcastle University International Foundation
Newcastle University gives International Foundation Scholarships to talented students who want to go to college after high school and then get their first degrees at Newcastle. The International Foundation in Physical Sciences and Engineering is also available.
The University of Nottingham scholarship
The University of Nottingham Engineering Research Ph.D. scholarship is given to outstanding international students who are enrolled in Engineering research degree programs.
EDSF Scholarship for International Students in Computer Science and Engineering and Graphic and Media Communications
The Electronic Document Scholarship Foundation (EDSF) started its scholarship program in 1999 to recognize and help the next generation of Document Management and Graphic Communication professionals. EDSF gives one-time scholarships of $1,000 to $5,000 USD to full-time undergraduates at accredited colleges or universities anywhere in the world who want to work in the Document Management and Graphic Communications market.
The Sub-Saharan Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation
The goal of the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation is to encourage engineering entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa and give them prizes for their work.
The Africa Prize will encourage talented and ambitious engineers from all over sub-Saharan Africa to use their skills to come up with scalable solutions to local problems. This will show how important engineering is as a tool for improving quality of life and economic growth. Finalists will be asked to give talks at an event in Africa, where the winner will be chosen. The winner will get £25,000, and the runners-up will each get $10,000.
SPIE Scholarship in Optical Engineering and Science
SPIE offers Optics and Photonics Education Scholarships and Travel Scholarships to students from anywhere in the world, from high school to graduate school and PhD programs, who are studying or planning to study optics, photonics, or a related field. Students in high school, pre-college, secondary school, college, and graduate school can apply for Optics and Photonics Education Scholarships. The scholarships are worth different amounts, from $2,000 to $11,000.

Since it was started in 1984, the Foundation has given graduate school grants to hundreds of outstanding applicants, many of whom have gone on to have prominent and successful careers in their field. Students from all over the world can send in an application.
Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields
TechWomen will choose 100 women from Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East who work in STEM fields to take part in the program.
Agip Scholarships for Nigerian College Freshmen
The Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited is giving out scholarships to Nigerian 100-level students through the Agip Tertiary Institutions Scholarship Awards Scheme. The National Merit Award is only open to students of Engineering, Geology, and Geosciences.
Women can get Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarships. The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship helps women in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa get Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degrees in computing and technology.
OPEC/OFID is giving scholarships of $50,000 to developing countries
The OPEC Fund for International Development – OFID Scholarship Award gives up to $50,000 to qualified applicants who have or are about to finish their bachelor’s degree and want to study for a master’s degree.
Scholarships from the Japanese government for international students in college and graduate school
Foreign students who want to learn more about the Japanese language, Japanese affairs, and Japanese culture can get scholarships to study in Japan through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of the Japanese government. A lot of the awards that the Japanese government gives out are for Engineering courses, among other things. Please get in touch with your country’s Japanese embassy or general consulate.
George Boole/Presidential Merit Scholarships for International Students
In partnership with George Boole and Presidential Merit Scholarships, the College of Science, Engineering, and Food Science (SEFS) gives scholarships to eligible international students every year to cover the difference between the EU tuition fee and the international tuition fee for an undergraduate or master’s degree program.
International students can apply for these scholarships, and the winners will be chosen based on how well they did in their secondary school leaving exams and/or their first degree.
Scholarships to study engineering at the University of Bath.
Twenty Faculty of Engineering and Design Elite MSc Scholarships, each worth £2,000, are being given out by the University of Bath to international students who pay fees. This money is not given to students as cash, but as a discount on their tuition fees.
Engineering scholarships at the University of Warwick for international students
Students who have made the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick their first and only choice and who will start their studies in 2017 are eligible for the scholarships. If you don’t have an offer yet, you can use UCAS to apply.

Henry DeWitt Smith Scholarship: Master’s and PhD in Petroleum Engineering
Every year, the Henry DeWitt Smith Scholarship is given to students with or planning to get a Master’s or PhD in petroleum engineering.
Henry DeWitt Smith left the mining industry, which he worked in all of his adult life, a legacy of inspired leadership, professional success, personal integrity, and endless dedication. Ellen Burke Smith, who was married to him, made the Henry DeWitt Smith Fellowship in his honor. The candidate must be a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Australia’s Melbourne International Research Scholarships for Master’s and Ph.D.
The University of Melbourne set up the Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS), which is given to high-achieving research students from Australia and around the world. The University gives out more than 300 scholarships each year. The Melbourne School of Engineering is one of them. From 2016, the Melbourne Research Scholarship program will include the Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS).
Computer science, electrical engineering, and math PhD Fellowships from Microsoft Research
Microsoft Research has a Ph.D. Fellowship Program for PhD students in their second or third year of study. This program is offered once a year. Candidates in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics who have been full-time students in a Ph.D. program for two years can be nominated by their universities.

The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) Scholarship is given every year to international students who want to go to Nanyang Technological University to do a full-time PhD program (NTU). The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a partnership between the Agency for Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR), the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The Facebook Fellowship Award for International Graduate Students is worth $37,000 per year.
The Facebook Fellowship Program is open to full-time Ph.D. students studying computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system architecture, or a related field. These students can be from the United States or another country.
Professional Fellowships for Developing Countries from the Commonwealth
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission is giving mid-career professionals from Developing Commonwealth Countries the chance to study at a host organization in the UK through Research Fellowships. NRF-TWAS African Renaissance Doctoral Scholarships / NRF-TWAS Doctoral Scholarships
The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and The National Research Foundation (NRF) have teamed up to create two doctoral scholarships: the NRF-TWAS Doctoral Scholarship and the NRF-TWAS African Renaissance Doctoral Scholarship.
The goal of this award is to increase the number of Doctoral scholars from Africa and other developing countries and help them. They will be given money each year for up to three years so they can do full-time research training in South Africa. For the next three years, there will be a new group of 70 doctoral scholars each year.
Google gives science and engineering research grants to academic institutions all over the world.
Google gives $150,000 Faculty Research Awards to universities and colleges around the world that are doing innovative research in these areas. The Google Research Awards are one-year grants to universities that can be used to help full-time faculty members at top universities around the world do their best work. Faculty can apply for Research Awards by submitting a proposal during one of the two funding rounds that happen every six months.
Entrepreneurs can win a $4 million prize from the Zayed Future Energy Prize.
The Prize fund comes from the Abu Dhabi Government as a way to honor and carry on the work of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the United Arab Emirates. The Zayed Future Energy Prize is run by Masdar, the renewable energy company in Abu Dhabi. All year long, a dedicated team works on the Prize.
