The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer and former president John Mahama has outlined some of the policies and programs his government will implement should the NDC win the general elections scheduled for 7th December 2024.
Speaking at the launch of the NDC’s 2024 election campaign at the Jubilee Park in Tamale today, John Mahama provided hints of what his party will do in the area of education.

He disclosed that his government will revive the late President Atta Mills’ efforts to remove more schools under trees by providing them with befitting school infrastructure.

According to him, the upcoming NDC government plans to form a public-private partnership with universities and private businesses to construct new student hostel facilities on campus. This initiative aims to provide residence on campus for students who currently rent off-campus, thereby simplifying their lives and reducing the risk associated with frequent campus moves.
The National Democratic Congress flag bearer hinted that the new NDC government will address the issue of Free SHS and its attendant challenges. They plan to abolish the current double-track system, which has resulted in learners staying at home for up to 4 months before returning to school during vacations, to enable all students to attend school simultaneously. We added that the government, parents, teachers, and all stakeholders will collaborate to abolish the current double-track system. He also hinted at expanding infrastructure to deal with the challenge. He believes these actions, when taken, will improve Free SHS in its current state.
