Minister announces 600-Bed hostel project to boost Dr Hilla Limann Technical University’s insfrastructure

The government has issued support for a 600-bed hostel range for the Dr Hilla Limann Technical University in Wa, the Upper West Regional capital. The university is the only state university that do not have a accomodation for students, an that is unpleasing to both learners, their parents and guardians.
Haruna Iddrisu,The Minister of Education, stated that the progress was to increase break into and also make the university pleasing and attractive to both learners and parents or guardians. He said this during the launch of a 19-member Governing Council on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
The Chairman of the Committee is, former Provost, College of Health Sciences of the University of Ghana, Prof. Julius N. Fobil, has as members the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Elias Nortaa Kuunedeb Sowley, 3 reps of the President – Mohammed Alhassan, Bridget Nakpele Dery and Thadeus Sory, a rep from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Dr Lobnibe Jane-Francis Yirdong and a rep of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), Rev. Ebenezer Kofi Gyeke-Obuobi.
Remaining ones are a reps of the Association of Ghana Industries, Osman Salannoon Kulendi, a rep of the Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools, Alhassan Abudu Bafara, two reps of the Convocation, a non-teaching staff, Musah Karim (teaching) and Isshaque Ananwulo Shameena (non-teaching), a rep of the Teaching Staff Association, Samandu Kamwine, a rep of the Senior Staff Association, Dery Angsomwini and a rep of the Junior Staff Association, Bontariba Enoch.
Others are a rep of the undergraduate students of the technical university, Zakaria Yakubu, a rep of the alumni of the technical university, elected by the Alumni Association, Annaakaa Waris, a rep of the Ghana Employers Association, Edmund Kwablah Gbemu and the Association of Principals of Technical Institutes, Saaka Adams.
The minster said “conflicts in university campuses, the minister said, “I am up to speed on that you have had enough of labour disputes over in recent years” on disagreement in university territories.
We will still not cease to experience some of it.”
He stated that, regardless of the fact that labour disputes and disagreement were certain, “The most crucial thing is to be ahead of it and make way for unity to gain ascendancy on our territories.
Haruna Iddrisu also said with the possession of office of the Vice Chancellor lasping on May 31, 2025, “I have been guided appropriately,” and went along to say that he was wary of the unreliability the empty space could cause and the disputes setting in correlated with the apparent empty space.
He stated that, the GTEC had been assigned to begin an inquiry for the Council to select a Vice Chancellor who is good and fits the position.
“So, this shall intend to be one of your vital and current steps you should take to protect the efficient management and managing of the institution to prevent it from facing difficulties from the disease of Ghana’s public service systemic ineffectiveness.
“So, we look forward to the Council to operate with GTEC to ensure that this justifiable responsibility is fulfilled,” the minister assigned the council. He restated the President’s objective not to get involved with the activity and the pleasure of academic sovereignty. Replying, Prof. Fobil thanked the President through Mr Haruna Iddrisu for selecting them to work for the nation through the council and promised in the name of the members that they would operate to give reason for their addition.
He also mentioned that, the tertiary education capacity was tormented with difficulties, but guaranteed that, in spite of all those difficulties bring out their all in all.
