Nananom are being misled with money- Asantehene vows
How are the Nananom being misled by money? The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed his determination to restore the glory and dignity of the Ashanti kingdom. He made this statement while addressing some chieftaincy disputes at the Manhyia Palace, the seat of his power.
According to Asantehene, some of his sub-chiefs (nananom) have been corrupted and misled by money and have lost their loyalty and love for Asanteman.
He cited the example of Tweneboa Koduah, a legendary warrior who fought and died for Asanteman at the Battle of Kumawu in 1826. He said that such heroes deserve to be honored and respected, not forgotten or betrayed.
He warned that he would not hesitate to remove any chief who is not serving the interest of the Ashanti kingdom. He said that he would use all his power and authority to ensure that Asanteman rises again to its rightful place.
He also urged the people of Asanteman to remember their roots and culture, and to support him in his vision. He said that Asanteman is not just a geographical area, but a spirit and a way of life.
