According to the leadership of the NSPA, the meeting with the MoE was pivotal and aimed, among other things, to discuss various issues of interest, ranging from the welfare of service personnel and institutional policy reforms to youth empowerment initiatives and the transition of tertiary students to service personnel.

The delegation, comprised of the National Leadership, arrived at the Ministry of Education with a clear agenda and a determination to advocate for positive change within the corridors of youth education and empowerment.

The primary focus was to establish a dialogue that would better the welfare of service personnel and provide opportunities for them in the aftermath.

During the meeting, the executives engaged in a constructive exchange of ideas with the Minister, emphasising the importance of a trusted roadmap for personnel after service in shaping the future of the country.

They highlighted concerns related to the late payment of monthly allowances and the need for timely payment that aligns with the demands of regular service personnel in such a costly environment and economy.

This pertinent issue of late payment of allowances is the root cause of the drastic decrease in productivity at work in the months the allowance is not paid on time, which affects overall institutional output and subsequently national growth.

Addressing the issue of the welfare of the service personnel, the executives proposed collaborative efforts between the government and the association to implement initiatives that would bridge educational gaps, particularly in underserved communities.

The association’s leaders also stressed the significance of scholarships, mentorship programmes, and vocational training to empower young minds and prepare them for the challenges of the modern workforce.

The working visit to the Minister of Education by the national executives of the youth association exemplified the importance of proactive engagement in addressing issues of national interest.

They also used the opportunity to thank the government for listening to their demands for an upward adjustment of the monthly allowance, which led to the increase in the allowance from GHC 559 to GHC 715.

The Minister, on his part, indicated that his outfit will continue to engage other stakeholders to ensure the timely payment of allowances after the whole registration phase is over for the personnel.
