No Renewal, No SSNIT Pension: SSNIT Enforces New Birth-Month Verification Policy for All Pensioners

SSNIT Announces Mandatory Annual Pensioner Certificate Renewal Policy Starting April 2026
The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has introduced a major policy change that will affect all pensioners beginning April 2026. Under the new arrangement, every pensioner—whether they retired compulsorily at age 60 or voluntarily at age 55—will now be required to renew their Pensioner Certificate once every year during their birth month to continue receiving their monthly pension payments.
According to SSNIT, the new policy is designed to strengthen the integrity of the national pension system and ensure that pension payments go only to living and eligible beneficiaries. Management believes the annual renewal will enhance accountability, eliminate discrepancies, and maintain a clean and reliable pension payroll.

Multiple Convenient Renewal Channels Introduced
To make the renewal process more accessible, SSNIT has opened four main channels for pensioners to complete their annual verification:
SSNIT Mobile App (Resident & Non-resident Pensioners – Facial Verification)
SSNIT Virtual Branch
SSNIT Partner Banks (Co-locations)
Any SSNIT Branch Nationwide
In addition, SSNIT has introduced a special arrangement for pensioners with mobility challenges. Such individuals can request home verification by calling the SSNIT Contact Centre on 0302 611 622 to schedule a home visit.
To help pensioners comply easily, SSNIT will send reminders via SMS, email, and other approved communication platforms at least one month before the pensioner’s birth month.
