NTC to begin license card issuance mop-up in all regions

The management of the National Teaching Council (NTC) says it will at a date yet to be communicated to the members of the general public commence qualified teacher license card issuance mop-up in various regions across the country.

The impending nationwide license card issuance mop-up exercise the Teaching Council told EducationWeb is to ensure all qualified teachers of the Ghana Education Service (GES) are licensed to become professional teachers to teach.

“We will be in the Oti region from Monday, June 6, 2022, to Friday, June 18, 2022, to issue the license cards to eligible teachers. But after that a mop-up will be conducted in various regions across the country,” an NTC official stated.

In a related development, the Registrar of the Council as part of an effort to promote teacher professionalization in the country has said it will after 2024 phase out or stop all unlicensed teachers from teaching in the various classroom.

In a discussion with Accra-based Peace 104.5 FM, Dr Christian Addai Poku said all unlicensed teachers in the country have been given a maximum of three years to upgrade themselves and qualified to be licensed as professionals.

End of Term Exams

The National Teaching Council (NTC) Executive Director said his outfit is in talks with the various teacher training institutions on how best they can help the unlicensed teachers to upgrade themselves to get a full license.
