Odarky Andy Reveals How Social Media destroyed His Music Deal
Odarky Andy, known for his participation in “Mentor 1,” shared a cautionary tale about the impact of social media on his music career during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s midmorning program, “Ayekoo Ayekoo,” on October 26, 2023. He emphasized the need for social media users to be mindful of their comments about artists, as these remarks can have significant consequences.
Andy narrated an incident where an individual, whose identity he did not disclose, expressed interest in signing him. Before this potential deal, the man was not familiar with Andy’s talents. However, after Andy recorded several songs and sent them to the man in London, he was impressed and indicated his intention to sign him.
The prospective deal was shrouded in secrecy, with the man urging Andy not to disclose it to his colleagues, as it might discourage them. As the negotiations progressed, the man wanted to release Andy’s songs on digital platforms for streaming without a formal contract in place. Andy, being cautious, requested to involve his lawyer and manager in Ghana, which led to a heated exchange.

Subsequently, the man distanced himself from Andy, stopped answering his calls, and left him behind while his colleagues went out for days. Andy even feared he might be poisoned due to the escalating situation.
Ultimately, Andy decided to inform the man of his decision to leave Lagos and return to Ghana. The man protested, but Andy pointed out that he was seeking a legitimate business partnership and insisted on having a contract. This demand did not sit well with the man, who had initially seen Andy’s potential online but seemingly wanted to exploit him without proper agreements.
During this period, Andy was shown the negative comments and discussions about his career on social media, which greatly affected his outlook. He lamented that some people would write derogatory comments about his career, even when he released new songs or participated in trending issues.
Seeing these negative comments and realizing the impact they were having on his career, Andy decided to return to Ghana. He observed that people didn’t appreciate him because of the negative perceptions created by social media. This cautionary tale serves as a reminder of the power of social media and the importance of being considerate when discussing artists and their careers online.
