Awudome Senior High School (AWUSCO), located in Tsito in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, has long been a beacon of academic excellence and community engagement in Ghana.
Established over six decades ago, the school has consistently contributed to the educational landscape, nurturing young minds and shaping future leaders.
In a grand gesture reflecting their dedication and gratitude, the alumni of AWUSCO recently inaugurated a GH¢1.6 million health center at the school, marking a significant milestone during its 60th anniversary celebrations.
The newly built eight-bed facility is designed to cater to the health needs of not only the students of Awudome Senior High School but also the residents of Tsito and surrounding communities.
This initiative, driven by the Old Students Union of AWUSCO (OSUA), highlights a profound commitment to giving back to their alma mater and supporting the broader community.
The inauguration of the health center coincided with the school’s 60th anniversary, celebrated under the theme: “60 years of quality education: Benefits and relevance in contemporary times.”
This theme reflects the school’s sustained impact on its students and its adaptability to the evolving educational requirements of the modern world.
Professor Leonard Amekudzi, President of OSUA and Provost of the College of Science at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), spoke at the event.

Prof. Amekudzi noted that the strong relationship between the school’s board and its alumni is a driving force behind the continual development projects on campus.
He shared that OSUA had launched a membership campaign to rally more resources, supporting infrastructural expansions and aiding students in excelling at national academic competitions, such as the National Science and Mathematics Quiz.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibal Yao Letsa, commended the efforts of the alumni, noting the added value of the health center extending its services to the neighboring communities as well.
Dr. Letsa praised AWUSCO as one of the premier senior high schools in Ghana, attributing its success to the active involvement of its old students.
He remarked that such initiatives significantly bolster the government’s efforts to enhance educational quality and accessibility in the region.

It serves as a reminder of the powerful role education institutions can play in community development and the importance of alumni engagement in sustaining and advancing these contributions for generations to come.
This initiative not only commemorates a milestone but also sets a precedent for future alumni contributions to educational institutions across Ghana.
