One dead as fire engulfs Saboba E.P SHS (Video)

The Saboba Evangelical Presbyterian Senior High School has suffered a ravaging fire that has destroyed properties worth millions of cedis. Sadly, one person is reported dead as a result of the fire.
The video footage sighted by your reliable Ghana Education News portal showed that the school dormitories affected had been burnt to ashes. Student beds, mattresses, books, trunks, uniforms, and other personal belongings have been destroyed.
Authorities have released the identity of the deceased, one Kofi Binidam Theresa, a female student of the school. The body of the deceased has been conveyed by the police. Investigations are expected to commence once the fire is fully extinguished to determine the cause of the incident. While the extent of damage is yet to be fully known, and provide details on the extent of the damage.
The District Chief Fire Officer for Saboba advised the public to always put off fires completely after using them, especially during this dry and windy season.
“Due to the Harmattan, everything is dried up so the little introduction of heat will generate fire. So I advise that people put off fire completely after using it.”
The students saved a few items. From the video footage, students had tried their best to deal with the ravaging fire with gallons of water, but their efforts yielded no results. The affected dormitories have become ghost towns, with only the walls still standing.
Students and members of staff have been devastated by the sad incident.
The sad reality is that the infrastructure of Saboba E.P. Senior High School has been subject to various challenges and developments over the years. 2021, the school was upgraded to a boarding status, significantly improving accessibility to education for students from distant rural areas who previously had to find accommodation in district capitals. This upgrade was part of the government’s initiative to enhance educational equity across Ghana.
However, the school faces issues such as dust from the untarred Saboba-Chereponi road affecting its compound during the dry season and a need for better fencing to secure the premises, which is currently open to the public. Despite these challenges, the school maintains a cattle ranch, adding a unique agricultural aspect to its educational offerings.
With the fire burning the dormitory, the challenges of the school have been compounded as efforts must be made to house the students, among others.
