Pre-Tertiary Schools Resume Academic Work Today After Failed Strike

Pre-Tertiary Schools Resume Today After Teachers Wasted Precious Time Striking Only To Be Made Powerless by a Court Order.
Pre-tertiary schools will today Monday,14th November 2022 resume school across the country after teacher unions called off their strike over the appointment of Dr Eric Nkansah as the new Director General.
The National Labour Commission (NLC) secured a restraining order against the teacher Unions from continuing with their strike.
The strike lasted seven days, leading to the loss of valuable contact hours again after their earlier 14 days of strike action for the demand of a 20% Cost of Leaving Allowance.
The unions sought to press home their demand for the government to annul the appointment on the basis that, the newly appointed GES Boss was not a professional teacher and had not gone through the mill as required of any individual appointed to the position of the Director General of the Ghana Education Service.
However, the strike had to be called off after the government secured a court order against the striking teachers
The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers – NAGRAT, Angel Kabonu after getting updated with details of the court order directed all teachers to go back to the classroom from Monday, November 14, 2022, until further notice.
“We are law-abiding citizens, so we have decided to obey the orders of the Court, and we have asked all our members to call off the strike and to go back to the classroom,” he said.
Mr. Kabonu maintained that they will continue engaging “the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, and report to the Labour Commission on Wednesday, November 16, on the issues that led to the strike in the first place to find solutions to their demand.”

It is hoped that the teacher unions will follow due process and absorb all available plans and avenues for addressing this issue. However, the government may not grant their demands in the matter pending.
