Information from some schools sighted by GhanaEducation.Org shows that Pre-Tertiary Schools will run 2 terms in 2023 thus the infamous semester programme will be run to ensure the 2023/2024 academic year starts early.
The above information is yet to be confirmed or otherwise by the Ghana Education Service at the time of this publication. Schools will be run for 16 weeks each for term 1 and term 2. To help revert to the old academic structure which usually started in mid-September prior to Coivd-19.

The announcement communicating the information read as follows
Very important notice
1. There will be two (2) terms only for the next academic year, 2023.
16 weeks each for term 1 and term 2.
This is to help us revert to the old academic structure.
This means the 2023/24 academic year will start somewhere mid of September 2023.
Let us take note and prepare our schemes accordingly
The academic calendar of Ghana was destabilized by the onset of Covid-19 and the reopening of schools started in January 2021 instead of the usual September. The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service have informed the public of its plans to return to the usual academic calendar which commenced in September each year.
However, GhanaEducation.org at the time of this publication could not independently verify if the information picked up was in line with what the GES is expected to release to the general public or if the information was the sole decision of the school in question.

The question is can a school institute its own academic calendar? In the coming days and weeks, the GES may clear the air on the accuracy of this information.
If the Pre-Tertiary Schools are to run 2 terms of 16 weeks in 2023 and end the academic in August 2023, the GES needs to update the general public and might have engaged other stakeholders on this already to avoid sentiments and teacher unions agitations on the matter.
