Pre-tertiary teachers threaten to strike if violent attacks on them by students do not stop

Teachers over the country are giving fair warning as the Pre-tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (Pre-TTAG) issues threats to pull back its assistance to manage surge in harsh assault against teachers on school premises.
The Association said these things are gradually having negative effects on the teaching and learning environment and give notice that, extreme reaction is required from the Ministry of Education.
Insubordination on school territories is increasing rapidly and getting uncontrollable increasing major worries amid teachers and beneficiaries over the country.
Assault issues concerning not only students but teachers are going higher, with terrifying outcomes for academic work. From the Western Region to the capital, Accra, institutions are turning into field of battle enhancing priority calls for crisis actions. Recently, upsetting images arise from the Western Region, where students were spotted displaying weapons on school territory.

On Friday, May 16, disruption arised at the Accra High School when a student and a teacher got into fistfights. These things are not secluded. In November last year, an educator in Offinso, Ashanti Region, was pierced with knife in the eye by a student, an unbelievable act that emphasized the seriousness of the issue. In spite of numerous calls from the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) for reimbursement and security, there’s been less reply from the officials.
Now, the Pre-Tertiary Teacher Association of Ghana is giving fair warning, Adokwei Ayikwei-Awulley is the Vice President of the Association. Talking on a discussion with 3news, he stated that, the employment law says that if an environment is not helpful for work, one must exit, so if the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education do not react, we will be exiting from classrooms in no time.
The Association is requesting action at once and a call for conversation.
They proposed, requesting the Parent Teacher Association, civil society, the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service to allow them have a national conversation to talk about the gravity of insubordinate in our institutions.
