Primetime launches 2024 NSMQ with record-breaking participation of 157 SHSs
Primetime Limited on October 1, 2024, launched the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) at GNAT hall with balloting. A total of 157 Senior High Schools have been seeded to participate in the national championship.
With private second-cycle schools to participate in the Science and Mathematics Quiz, the figure represents the highest number of participants in the competition’s history since its inception in 1993.
Speaking ahead of the launch, the Managing Director of Primetime Limited, Nana Akua Mensa-Bonsu said for the first time in the history of the NSMQ, 157 schools, including eight private schools, will be participating in the national championship.
“The balloting exercise for the Prelims will help each school know who they are up against. Another new development this year is that, for the first time in NSMQ history, we have 157 schools, including eight private schools, participating in the National Championship
It has never happened before. I must say it takes a little time for new schools to acclimatise, as the NSMQ has its own rhythm and its own demands on the students. However, we hope the private schools will give the government schools a run for their money,” Ms Mensa-Bonsu stated.
The launch brought together key stakeholders in Ghana’s educational landscape, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, the renowned Quiz Mistresses, NSMQ consultants, and all the sponsors of this year’s competition.
These esteemed guests witness the unveiling of the highly anticipated season, which promises exciting new features and a competitive display of intellectual prowess among Ghana’s brightest minds.
During the launch, Primetime Limited provided a detailed overview of the upcoming competition and shared highlights of the changes that will make this year’s NSMQ a memorable experience.
Guests were also treated to previews of the exciting contests and initiatives lined up for the season, including the much-talked-about move to Cape Coast, which will serve as the host city for the entire National Championship.
The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Stephen Kwaku Owusu, who launched the competition, called for more schools, students and parents to embrace and explore the disciplines in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
“The NSMQ has proven to be a powerful platform for promoting STEM education and inspiring young minds. The Ministry of Education and GES encourage more schools to participate and seize this opportunity to showcase and improve the talents and knowledge of their students,” he said.
