Prof. Jane Naana Rejected by NDC Party Base

The enthusiastic reception that greeted the initial announcement of Pr. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang in 2020 has faded away into obscurity by 2024. On February 29, 2024, the premature disclosure of one of the three potential candidates to the party leadership resulted in a widespread rejected Prof. Jane by the public. She faced strong opposition in various constituencies and on social media platforms.

Certain biased reports on select news outlets, aimed at influencing the NDC flagbearer to select Madam Jane, were swiftly rejected by the NDC party’s base and other keen observers. The announcement was met with resounding disapproval and rejection. The NDC party’s base is well aware of the challenges ahead for the NDC and is unwilling to compromise the party’s prospects for mere convenience.

The FALSE report of her selection as running mate was rejected on the same day with no further media scrutiny. The morale of the party’s base plummeted on the morning of the announcement, with some members considering their next steps. This represents a significant rejection of her candidacy.

One of the reasons for her rejection was the necessity for a clear succession plan. Additionally, her lackluster performance in her own constituency and region (Central Region) during the 2020 elections was highlighted.

She faced defeat in her own region, placing more pressure on John Mahama to secure votes outside of the Central Region. Age was also cited as a factor, as it is evident that Madam Jane’s age does not align with the desired profile. The NDC is in need of a youthful, dynamic, and vigorous individual to complement H.E. John Dramani Mahama.

A selection that will resonate with the party’s grassroots and fulfill their expectations. The emphasis is on choosing a co-pilot, not a co-retiree.

It is disgraceful to be aware of those responsible for the leak and their self-centered motives. Their personal agenda is completely contradictory to the party’s interests and progress. Such individuals should be publicly identified and condemned for their malicious attempt to disgrace the party by deceiving the flagbearer through the unnecessary publication in the newspapers.

We strongly encourage H.E. John Dramani Mahama to openly disclose the name of the young co-pilot who will lead the party to victory in 2024, 2028, 2032, and beyond because the party base says Prof. Jane Naana rejected!

We will persist in exposing the adversaries of the party.

May the truth prevail.
