Public Sector Workers Warned of Dangerous New E-payslip Fraud App by CAGD
The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) as part of its efforts to protect public sector workers and their salaries have sent an urgent notice to Public Sector Workers on New E-payslip Fraud.
The (CAGD) released the warning, which had to do with a purported phone application known as E-payslip. Per the CAGD release, the said app is not owned by the CAGD. The illegal app contains publicly available details of the CAGD such as its logo, which is being used by the criminals who own the app.
The app is used to collect and steal personal details and financial information of unsuspecting public sector employees. Public sector workers such as teachers, nurses, and other employees and staff of the security agencies have therefore been advised not to access and leave any details of theirs in the said app.
The CAGD has directed that public sector workers should not install the app or try to input their official details into the app with the intention of accessing their payslips.
The Dangerous New E-payslip Fraud app, just like similar ones, has the potential to
a. Hijack the phones of those who use it.
b. Be used to steal mobile money from phone numbers that hook on to it.
c. Steal the bank transaction PIN codes of government workers for reasons known to the criminals behind the app.
d. Allow fraudsters to withdraw money from users’ accounts.

Workers have been asked not to use the app and that the app cannot be uninstalled once installed on your phone. The E-payslip app in question has a green and black label after installation.
Individual workers who have already installed the app on their phones have been advised to reset their login credentials on the official website where they validate their pay. To remove the app from your phone, reset your phone to factory settings to remove the app and protect their information.
Investigations have already commenced addressing the issues and security threats posed by the fraudulent app. All employees of the state have been tasked to be extra vigilant and cautious in protecting their personal and financial information from such dangerous E-payslip Fraud
