Reject the nomination of Justice Koomson- Justice for Ejura Group petitions Parliament
A group has petitioned Parliament to make express, the rejection of the nomination of Justice Koomson in clearer and unambiguous terms.
It will be recalled that after the screening of the Supreme Court nominees, members of the Appointments Committee of Parliament were unable to come to an agreement, and the future of two Justices chosen by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the Supreme Court now hangs in the balance.
The Committee has, however, recommended the approval of Justice Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu and Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu; raising questions about the fate of the other two.
In an interview on Eyewitness News, Deputy Ranking Member on the Committee, Muntaka Mubarak said the committee is yet to present its second report as it is yet to make a decision.“When we say we don’t have unanimity, especially on the case of the two, [it is because] on the day that we were taking the decision, the majority said no. They shouldn’t go to the Supreme Court, but that will be a recommendation to the House.
“The House will determine whether they agree with the Appointments Committee or disagrees with it. So at this stage, it’s very difficult to say you are rejecting or not, because whatever you bring remains a recommendation, the final decision is that of the House,” Muntaka explained.

Earlier this week on Monday, the Appointments Committee of Parliament through a report, recommended to the full House of Parliament, the approval of two of the four nominees of the President to the Supreme Court.
The recommended list omits the name of Justice Kingsley Koomson, the Chair of the Ejura Committee, against whose nomination the Joint Committee of the Victims of Ejura had petitioned Parliament.
In the petition, the Joint Committee also reminded the minority bench that the NDC executive had after the aftermath of the Ejura Report held a press conference stating their believe that Justice Koomson did not display the necessary integrity and independence of thought in the exercise.
The Joint Committee notes that the Appointments Committee was silent on whether it is rejecting the nomination of Justice Kingsley Koomson or only delaying it.
While we are confident that the nomination of Justice Koomson will be rejected, we reiterate by this press statement our continuous believe that Justice Koomson is not fit for the Office to which he is being appointed, based on the lack of integrity, fairness and independence displayed during his work as Chair of the Ejura Committee.
We thus call on Parliament to express its implied rejection of the nomination of Justice Koomson in clearer and unambiguous terms.
