Safo Newman Releases Independence Day Song: March Past (Official Lyrics Video)
Safo Newman Ghana’s new and trending music sensation has released an Independence Day song titled March Past. The official lyrics video is on YouTube and has already received massive viewing, less than 12 hours after it was released.
The video talks about the big promises given by politicians who fail to meet them. It highlights the pull-him-down attitude of Ghana and the fact that Ghana was the first to gain independence in Sub-Saharan Africa, yet we are yet to truly march to the freedom land since we started marching on the 6th of March.
The tribalistic behaviour of Ghana, which is destroying and delaying our progress, was fully articulated in the song. He argued in the song that Ghanaians are not ready to stop anything that works against them.
He spoke about how Ghanaians who cannot do the job hijack positions and discourage those who are ready to sacrifice to get the job done the right way.
Excerpts from the song (Lyrics in English)
Gas to the Bons and Fantes
I’m an Asante
My friend is a Dagati
Wherever you are coming from, we are all one,
Please, don’t be chanting when you see me
Look at her checks like something
She is a Fante right?
Came to spoil our chances
Let’s pull her down and replace her with an Ewe
So all these still exist?
Chorus:
Since independence is far
We were the first ones to have
But it seems we dont want to shun
Anything that works against us our land
Ok we know how to dance
But I think this is not enough
We have got to go beyond the drum
We need to get right all the basics
We dey march passing, passing
But we’re yet to catch
The night bus going to the town of Freedom
We heard the sound (Paa paa)
Because of our sweet eyelids
we can’t wake up
Those who can do it are also always attacked
