Salary Of The Highest Paid GES Teacher After 23% Salary Increase

The government of Ghana has increased the salaries of public sector workers by 23% effective January, 2023. Let’s take a look at the salary of the highest paid GES teacher.

Teachers and other staff members of GES do not take the same salary. They are being paid based on their ranks. The higher your rank, the higher your salary. You could have PHD, but if your rank in GES is low, you will receive a lesser salary.

Currently, the least-paid GES worker takes home a net salary of GH¢434.01 while the highest-paid worker takes home a net salary of GH¢8,271.95.

However, following the salary increment by 23% which takes effect next year, the salary of the highest paid GES teacher will be GH¢10,090.09. This salary is usually for the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, who is also regarded as a teacher.

This comes after workers in Ghana witnessed an increment in their basic pay, by 23%

End of Term Exams

This increment will take effect from January 1, 2024. The 23 percent is the one of the biggest increment organised labour has secured out of negotiations with the government since 2010 when the government increased the base pay by 20 percent and again by the same margin in 2011.

Since the current administration came to power in 2017, the highest increment has been 30 percent, which was secured in 2023.
