Salary Validation for July Starts Without COLA: Check Reasons Here
Following the approval of the 15% COLA for public sector workers, many government employees were looking forward to the COLA reflecting during their salary validation, however this was not the case.
An earlier information about the date and modality of payment of the COLA which suggested that the July COLA will be paid in August has been confirmed.
The explanation for this is that as T the time the government approved the 15% Cost of Leaving Allowance (COLA) for striking teachers and all public sector organized labour, the Controller and Accountant General’s Department had already commenced processing of public sector wages and salaries for the month.
The latest update purported to have emanated from the TEWU secretary is that “COLA will reflect in August with July arrears”… This is “Because CAGD has processed July salaries for validation”
The COLA strike inspired by four pre tertiary education labour unions lasted 10 days and saw government approving a 15% Cost of Leaving Allowance to be paid for the remaining half of the year (July to December 2022)
