Although the Ministry of Education has added new public secondary schools and TVETS, not all students will gain Admission into Free SHS.

If I am not placed in a secondary school, what are the options open to me?

For students who do not get placed into a secondary school through automatic placement may have the following options.

#Self Placement

What is the 2021-2022 BECE School Self-placement?

This is a second chance given to students to choose schools from those available plus accommodation type and Programme.

This option is given to students who passed the BECE but did not get placed in any of the six choices they made.

Once you check your school placement and you are not placed in any school of choice but you passed, the CSSPS portal may give you the option to do the self-placement.

Not all BECE graduates who are not placed get the opportunity to do the self-placement. However, if you have the chance to choose a school through the self-placement module but you fail to take advantage, the number of schools in the system will begin to reduce or schools will disappear from the system once all the slots available in the school have been selected by others through the self-placement.

We have provided the step-by-step process for doing a self-placement at the end of the post. Check it and follow the procedures.

#1 Gain Admission into a private SHS etc

The second option for those who are not placed in any school of choice is to gain Admission and get enrolled in a private senior high. Parents would have to pay the full fees of the student since such schools are not part of the government’s free SHS policy.

#2 Resit BECE as a private candidate

Those who failed or want to better their results, have to resit the private BECE organized by WAEC for JHS graduates and other private candidates.

#3 Learn a trade or acquire a skill

This means those who do not choose the other two alternatives may have to learn a trade as apprentices in tailoring, dressmaking, hairdressing, plumbing, or other alternatives.

Below are well-explained steps for doing a self-placement and checking your school placements. The information is based on what have been provided on the CSSPS portal.
