See the 2026 BECE Science Marking Scheme: Examiners to mark answers spelt incorrectly wrong
With the marking of the BECE going on sturdily since May 21st, 2026, the 2026 BECE Science marking scheme is now available. Teachers, schools, head teachers, candidates, and parents can all download the official marking scheme for the examination on this page.
Examiners who meet to discuss the marking scheme and update it to ensure no correct answer is marked wrongly for any students have updated the attached marking scheme.
One thing is clear: students who get the answer correct but spell it wrongly will be marked down per the marking scheme. On the scheme one can see inscriptions such as “Correct spelling to score”. What this means is that, wrong spellings render the answer wrong. Science teachers must introduce spelling and dictation exercises in their science lessons as a way of preparing their candidates for not only knowing the correctly answers but spelling them the correct way if they are to do well in the science paper.

The marking scheme shared here is the final scheme that all BECE Science examiners will use to assess student scripts.
The marking scheme covers only the section B and practice papers of the science paper, which will be marked by human examiners.

The scheme is important to students since they can just use it to make calculated guess scores and the grades they expect to obtain when the final examination results are released.
For teachers, the 2026 BECE Science Marking Scheme from WAEC will serve as a yardstick to examine how well they prepared the candidates for the examination. It will also be useful in preparing BECE candidates for the next examination in May, 2027.
