The List of Free SHS Private Schools Released by the John Mahama-led government has brought excitement to private Schools which suffered under the policy from 2017 to 2024 under Nana Addo.
Ahead of the end of the school selection for the 2025 BECE year, the Ministry of Education has released the First List of Private Schools for Pilot Inclusion in the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Policy. The Ministry of Education and its agencies have announced a significant milestone in the implementation of the FSHS policy, with the release of the first list of selected private schools to be included in the pilot programme.
A letter from the Ghana Education Service extending the school selection period for Junior High Schools (JHS) to Wednesday, June 25th, 2025 has been released following the late inclusion of the private Schools in the 2025 School selection exercise.
This extension, which is due to the inclusion of private Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the selection process, will allow candidates additional time to make informed choices inclusing Private SHSs. The inclusion of private SHSs means that the chance of overcrowding and oversubscription of some public schools will reduce.

– The deadline for school selection has been extended to June 25th, 2025.
– The extension is due to the inclusion of private SHSs in the selection process.
– All existing guidelines and procedures remain unchanged.
– Students are encouraged to consult with teachers, parents, and guardians to make informed decisions.
– Regional Directors are requested to communicate the updated deadline to all Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education.
– A supplementary register of second-cycle schools of newly added private schools has been attached.
List of Free SHS Private Schools Selected
The released schools were selected across the country. Out of the 25 schools selected, the Central Region had the highest representation with six institutions, followed closely by the Greater Accra Region with five schools.
Both the Ashanti and Eastern Regions had three schools each on the list.
The remaining regions, including Western, Western North, Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Volta, Bono East, and Bono, each had one school selected.
