STRANGE: Meet The Man Who Hasn’t Slept For 49 Years Now

Thai Ngoc, also called Hai Ngoc, is a Vietnamese man who was born in 1942. Thanh Nien, a Vietnamese news site, says that he is best known for saying that he has been awake for 49 years.

Thanh Nien also said that Ngoc learned to not sleep after getting sick with a fever in 1973, but the Vietnam Investment Review said that there was no clear reason for this.

“I don’t know if my lack of sleep has hurt my health or not. But I’m still healthy and able to farm like everyone else, “Ngoc said.

The old man from Que Trung commune in Que Son district said that he can carry two 50 kg bags of fertilizer down a 4 km road every day on his way home to show how healthy he is.

His wife said, “My husband used to sleep well, but now not even alcohol can put him to sleep.” She said that when Ngoc went to Da Nang to see a doctor, he got a clean bill of health except for a small drop in liver function.

Ngoc lives on his 5ha farm at the base of a mountain, where he spends all day farming and taking care of his pigs and chickens. At their house in Que Trung, his six kids live with them.

Ngoc often does extra work on his farm or stays up at night to watch over it, so it doesn’t get stolen. He says it took him three months of sleepless nights to dig two big ponds where he can raise fish.
