Support me to reform NPP – Afriyie Akoto tells party delegates
As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for the upcoming 2024 general elections, the stakes are higher than ever. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a flagbearer aspirant of the NPP, has come forward with a bold vision to transform the party, making it battle-ready and ensuring that every member enjoys the benefits of belonging to the NPP.
Speaking to over 600 designated NPP delegates from Team Akoto, Dr. Akoto passionately conveyed his message of hope and change. He urged party grassroots members to rally behind him and vote for him on November 4, 2023, to become the presidential candidate of the NPP and lead the party to victory in the upcoming elections.
Dr. Akoto empathized with the frustrations and disappointments that have plagued the NPP, assuring party members that he understands their concerns and has the right solutions to address them. He emphasized, “I am sad about the current situation of the party,” highlighting the need for transformative policies.
Central to Dr. Akoto’s reform agenda is the establishment of party-owned businesses. He envisions these businesses as a means to generate income that can be reinvested to support party activists at the grassroots level. Drawing inspiration from international examples, including Taiwan’s Kuomintang and South Africa’s ANC party, he proposed that a holding company would oversee these enterprises, ensuring that party members are gainfully employed and empowered.
Dr. Akoto’s approach aligns with proven strategies for party sustainability. By creating reliable sources of income and avoiding conflicts of interest with government entities, he aims to strengthen the party’s grassroots. He assured delegates that their welfare is his top priority, and he pledged unwavering support for them as the NPP’s presidential candidate and, potentially, as the President of Ghana.
In his address, Dr. Akoto emphasized the importance of high morale among the party’s grassroots. He asserted that their dedication is crucial for the NPP’s continued success and proposed that, together, they could break the eight-year governance cycle in the 2024 general elections.
The response from delegates was overwhelmingly positive. Erick Owusu, a coordinator from the Korle Klottey constituency, expressed gratitude to Dr. Akoto for addressing the grassroots’ longstanding concerns. He fervently hoped that the delegates would unite behind Dr. Akoto to bring about the much-needed changes.

Philip Allotey, a coordinator from the Bortianor Ngleshi Amanfrom constituency, commended Dr. Akoto for his clean and respectful campaign, free of insults and personal attacks. He encouraged his fellow Electoral Area Coordinators to follow suit and throw their support behind Dr. Akoto.
As the NPP approaches the crucial presidential candidate selection on November 4, 2023, Dr. Akoto’s vision for the party is gaining momentum. His commitment to revitalizing the NPP and ensuring that every member benefits from its success has struck a chord with party delegates and members alike.
With Dr. Akoto on the ballot as number 3, the NPP stands at a crossroads. The choice made on that pivotal day will determine the party’s path to the 2024 general elections. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto’s vision offers a promising path to renewed hope and confidence for the NPP, and a real chance to secure victory in the forthcoming elections.
