Tears Flow As Truck Rams Into Female WASSCE Student and Kills Her WASSCE for School results

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the fee for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) registration.

As you already know, the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be written in July. The registration for the exams has already begun. According to the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the 2024 BECE registration started on 11th March, 2024. The deadline for registration is 19th April, 2024.

The BECE for School Candidates is a school examination and is available to students in the third/final year of Junior High School only. It is therefore against the rules and regulations of the examination for schools to engage in the following activities;

  • Solicit for students and advertise the BECE in any form e.g. in the print, electronic or social media;
  • Register students who have not been enrolled in junior high school from their first year through to the third year and do not have the required continuous assessment records. The grading for the BECE is 70% external examination score and 30% continuous assessment score. Students who for one reason or the other transferred from one school to the other should have evidence of the necessary continuous assessment records;
  • Register students who are not in final year or are not bona fide students of the school in question. We have received intelligence reports of some students in public schools who move from their schools to private schools to register for the examination because of assurances of obtaining good grades by these schools.

WHEN IS THE 2024 BECE?

The 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will start on Monday, 8th July and end on Friday, 12th July, 2024.

WILL SCHOOL AND PRIVATE CANDIDATES WRITE THE SAME SUBJECTS?

Notably, due to the implementation of the common core curriculum, there will be variations in the examination format for School and Private candidates. School candidates will be assessed based on the common core curriculum, whereas Private candidates will be evaluated using the old syllabus. As a result, Private candidates are urged to exercise caution when selecting their subjects.

2024 WASSCE/ BECE Questions Leakage: WAEC and GES must be alert as Syndicates start Registration online

Tears Flow As Truck Rams Into Female WASSCE Student and Kills Her WASSCE for School results

The 2024 WASSCE and BECE are few months away. However, there is a sinister threat, which is the leakages of examination questions, that calls for a strict action by WAEC.

Year after year, students and schools grapple with the temptation of leaked exam papers, offered by shadowy figures promising academic success at a price. As the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) approach, WAEC must act now to shine a spotlight on this illicit industry.

Through covert channels, these syndicates obtain exam papers weeks or even months before the official dates. Then, they peddle these questions to desperate candidates and schools, preying on their aspirations for success. The cost? A hefty fee ranging from 800 to 1500 cedis, a small fortune for many families.

Recent revelations expose the audacity of these syndicates, as they shamelessly offer “VIP registrations” to unsuspecting candidates. Promises of  8 straight As and guaranteed success in their messages, enticing students with the allure of effortless achievement. But behind these empty assurances lies a web of deceit that threatens the very fabric of our education system.

What these syndicates fail to mention is the toll their actions take on the integrity of our examinations. By circumventing the principles of fairness and meritocracy, they undermine the hard work and dedication of honest students. Moreover, they erode trust in institutions like the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), casting doubt on the legitimacy of academic credentials.

The time for complacency is over. It falls upon WAEC and relevant authorities to take decisive action against these exam malpractices. Strengthening security measures, conducting thorough investigations, and prosecuting offenders are essential steps in dismantling these syndicates. Additionally, proactive measures such as awareness campaigns are crucial in educating students, parents, and educators about the dangers of engaging with exam leakages.

But the fight against exam malpractice cannot be won through institutional efforts alone. It requires a collective commitment from all stakeholders – students, parents, educators, and policymakers. Together, we must reject the allure of shortcuts and reaffirm our commitment to academic integrity. Success should be earned through diligence and perseverance, not bought at the expense of ethical standards.

As the 2024 WASSCE and BECE draw near, let us heed this clarion call for action. Let us expose the threat of examination leakages for what it is – a betrayal of trust, an assault on fairness, and a barrier to genuine achievement. Together, let us safeguard the integrity of our examinations and uphold the principles of honesty, integrity, and excellence in education.

Our primary objective at Ghana Education News is to support students and candidates by offering guidance, study materials, and projected topics for their exams. We strive to empower students with the necessary tools to excel in their academic pursuits. 2024 BECE and WASSCE not entirely FREE for public schools

2025 BECE results out Senior High Final-year students preparing for the WASSCE 2024 Integrated Science are encouraged to solve the following sample Questions.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the official dates for the conduct of the 2024 BECE and WASSCE; however, the exam is not entirely free for public school candidates.

Why are the 2024 BECE and WASSCE exams not entirely free for public school candidates?

The government will pay the examination fees charged by WAEC for all students writing both examinations in public basic and senior high schools, but parents whose wards attend public schools will still make some financial commitments towards the examination.

However, parents will be responsible for covering additional costs for data collection, management, storage, transfer, and other related expenses not included in the WAEC exam fee.
Parents whose wards will be taking the same examination from private basic and secondary schools will have to pay the full cost of the examinations to WAEC, in addition to the extra costs related to data collection, management, storage, transfer, and other related expenses not covered by the WAEC exam fee.

Parents are to ensure the biodata provided to the schools is accurate and that the information is captured as they send it to avoid errors in the names, dates of birth, etc. before the schools transfer them to WAEC for processing for the examination.

What this means is that WASSCE candidates will start with their practicals on July 1st, and while they are carrying out their practicals, the junior high schools will start their main examination one week into the WASSCE practicals. When the BECE candidates complete their exam on July 12th, WASSCE students will commence their main subject-based examinations until August 31st, 2024.

GES indicated that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will provide detailed information regarding the registration of candidates for the examinations to the heads of the schools in the coming weeks.
Regional Directors of Education were instructed to disseminate this vital information to the Metro/District/Municipal Directors of Education for onward communication to all heads of basic and senior high schools.
