WAEC Begins Scanning and Marking of 2024 WASSCE Objective Answer Sheets – Results Expected Soon!

GES Announces Return to International WASSCE

WAEC Begins Scanning and Marking 2024 WASSCE Objective Answer Sheets: Results Expected Soon. WAEC is expected to give an update on the result release date.

The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), following the release of 25 million by the government, has started scanning the objective answer sheets for the 2024 WASSCE for school candidates.

Mr. John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, said in a discussion with Joy FM that the commencement of the 2024 WASSCE objective sheet scanning follows the successful repair of the breakdown scanning machine.

He indicated that the scanner technicians managed to repair three of the machines needed for scanning the examination objective sheets, enabling the Examinations Council to process scanning of the answer sheets.

“Some of the machines are not fully operational, but we’ve managed to tweak a few of them, and work will start tonight with the scanning of the objective answer cards. And we have to run slowly because they are not, you know, fully fit as it were,” he disclosed.

Kapi added, “The council is working tirelessly to meet its timelines, even though staff were initially on their Christmas break. The urgency to complete the scanning and ensure results are released has led WAEC to recall some personnel to assist with the process.”

The WAEC spokesman said the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has also engaged examiners to scrutinise WASSCE for school scripts of candidates flagged for possible examination malpractice.

The not-for-profit organization official, despite the central government’s release of some funds to facilitate ongoing activities, emphasised the need for additional financial support to complete all aspects of the results processing.

Critical expenses include the repair of additional machines, payment of invigilators and supervisors, and procurement of a larger bandwidth for uploading the 2024 WASSCE for School results online.

“We’ve received assurances from the government that more funds will be released soon. However, if this doesn’t happen, we may face delays,” the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, told the host of Joy FM’s Newsnight.

In a related development, the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, says the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has already completed 50 percent of the WASSCE objective answer sheets. The minister had earlier revealed that the 2024 WASSCE results would be released by 29th December, 2024 however, WAEC is yet to confirm is the date was feasible.

Speaking to the media, the Education Minister said the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on December 28 or 29, 2024, will release the provisional West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school results.

2024 WASSCE Results date announced by MoE not feasible

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Refutes Minister’s Statement on 2024 WASSCE Results Release Date

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed claims by the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, that the 2024 WASSCE results will be released on or before December 29, 2024. According to Mr. Kapi John, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, the council cannot meet the stated timeline due to unresolved financial and logistical constraints.

In an interview with GTV, as reported by Ghana Education News, Mr. Kapi disclosed that WAEC has so far received only GHS25 million out of the GHS118 million owed by the government. He added that although WAEC requested an additional GHS35 million to expedite the process, the government did not respond.

“The GHS25 million received was used to settle arrears owed to technicians who were reluctant to repair the malfunctioning objective test marking machines,” Mr. Kapi explained. “We have invited technicians to assess the broken machines and provide repair estimates, which we will then report to the government.”

Addressing Dr. Adutwum’s announcement, Mr. Kapi clarified that releasing the results on December 29, 2024, is not feasible. He stated, “The council will announce a new timeline for the release of the results to the public and the students who took the exams.”

WAEC has indicated that the results delay is unavoidable and that the earliest possible release date would be in January 2025. This delay will affect institutions planning to admit 2024 WASSCE graduates.

Private schools, however, are urging WAEC to release their students’ results since they directly paid the full cost of the examination to WAEC and should not be affected by government-related challenges. WAEC has yet to issue a response to this demand.

The Minister of Education has assured secondary school graduates who completed SHS in 2024 that their pending 2024 WASSCE results will be released soon. According to reliable sources, the Ministry of Education has released an additional GHS25 million to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to enable it to carry out its mandate and release the results, which had been delayed due to a lack of funding.

Dr. Yaw Adutwum has also given students hope by stating that their WASSCE results will be released on or before 29th December 2024, instead of January 2025.

This announcement contradicts earlier reports and information shared by WAEC. According to the latest update from the Minister, the 2024 WASSCE results will be released on or before 29th December 2024.

The release of the results will be welcome news and will enable tertiary institutions to complete their admission processes for WASSCE candidates who applied for Level 100 first-degree programs. Such students cannot be fairly granted or denied admission without their results being uploaded onto the admission portals of the various institutions.

In a related development, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has released a simplified procedure to secure hostel accommodation for all its international students who have been granted admission to follow for registering for hostel accommodation on campus.

The university has also urged all applicants to visit the admission portal to confirm and verify KNUST admission information accuracy such as biodata, including names, date of birth, age, gender, and other details, before the admission office closes the portal.

Additionally, KNUST has announced dates and venues on campus for students to undergo their medical examinations, which began on 23rd December. The medical team will take a break for Christmas and resume work on 2nd January to continue the process.
