All SHS Students To Receive A Tablet By April - Education Minister

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, revealed the government’s initiative to distribute over 1.4 million tablets to students in Senior High Schools (SHS) as part of the free SHS policy, aiming to enhance the quality of education nationwide.

During his speech at the Wesley Girls SHS speech and prize-giving day, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum emphasized the significance of this move in fostering a technology-driven learning environment. He elaborated that the tablets would facilitate online learning activities and homework through a planned learning management system. Moreover, the Minister stressed the importance of equipping teachers with the necessary training to effectively utilize these tools.

Furthermore, he highlighted the intention to enhance classroom infrastructure by integrating more smart boards, thus creating a comprehensive technological ecosystem conducive to learning.

The distribution of the tablets is scheduled to commence within the next two months, ensuring that each student benefits from this educational resource. This initiative aims to revolutionize teaching and learning practices in public Senior High Schools across the country, ultimately contributing to the advancement of education in Ghana.

There are also plans to make free internet accessible to Senior High Schools and Tertiary institutions to improve teaching and learning.

Government has said it has already awarded the contract for the first batch of Wi-Fi installations to begin in some second cycle and tertiary institutions as part of the project.

This when rolled out for SHS students will see students receiving tablets loaded with textbooks.

This is part of the government’s effort toward the digitalization of the education sector in Ghana.

According to him, the tablets to be given to second-cycle school students will be preloaded with all essential textbooks and learning materials

It could be recalled that the Vice President of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made similar promises since November, 2021. He said that plans are far advanced to provide tablets for Senior High School (SHS) students across the country.

According to him, this move is part of the government’s agenda to digitize every aspect of the economy.

He said the government is in discussion with publishers of the textbooks to preload all the tablets with all the required textbooks.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made this known when he spoke at the Ashesi University in the Eastern Region on Ghana’s digitization drive under the theme “Transforming an economy through digitalization: The Ghana story”.

The 2024 presidential election is a contest between the two main political parties in Ghana; NPP and NDC. Each political party has elected its running. 2. Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong is believed to be the best running mate for Bawumia after pooling an impressive 37 votes in the just ended NPP election. It is believed that Kennedy Agyapong will help NPP break the eight if elected as flag bearer or selected as flagbearer.

3. Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh

Even before Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia announced his run, many NPP members picked Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his potential running mate. He is the current minister of Energy and the former Minister of Education.

Born on 23 May 1968 in Ashanti New Town, a suburb of Kumasi, and hailing from Pakyi No. 2 in the Ashanti Region, Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as NAPO started his basic education at KNUST Primary and continued to Prempeh College in Kumasi, Ashanti Region of Ghana, for his middle school education.

4. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum

At age 59, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is viewed by the party as an ideal candidate to provide a balanced dynamic to the presidential ticket, whether in terms of geography or ideology, to create what is seen as the most suitable partnership for the NPP in their efforts to break the eight. He is the current minister of Education and also regarded as the best minister in Ghana at the moment.

5. Opoku Onyinah

Apostle Professor Kwadwo Nimfour Opoku Onyinah, the famous Ghanaian theologian, a televangelist, who served as The Church of Pentecost’s Chairman from 2008 to 2018 is under strong consideration.

The church leader is said to have been instrumental in Dr. Bawumia’s popularity among the Christian Clergy and his selection will complement Bawumia within the Christian community.

Advocates for Onyinah also say he hails from the Ashanti Region which is key to the 2024 election for NPP to break the 8.

He was born in Aduman in the Ashanti Region to Opanin Kwame Onyinah and Maame Rebecca Akosua Addai of Aduman.
