For all Ghanaian MTN users, you can now send Mobile Money from Ghana to Nigeria by following the same prompts for local transfers but with a few changes.

With most Ghanaians unable to send money directly to their friends and colleagues in Nigeria and having to use third party apps, they can now rejoice for the new development. It is now easier to send money from Ghana to Nigeria without using Chipper cash app and other authentic third-party apps.

Select option 1 (Transfer money)
Proceed to select option 7 (Cross Border Payment)
Now, select option 1 (transfer to wallet)
Proceed to choose 1 (Nigeria) from the short list
Key in the receiver’s number
Make sure to start the number with 234xxxxxxxx
Proceed to enter your amount
Wait for prompt to enter PIN Code
Now, confirm the transaction

Ghana, has been among the countries blacklisted from using PayPal and other prominent financial services and apps due to unknown reasons. For some years now, sending money directly from your phone to a Nigerian without the involvement of a third person was a hard nut to crack.

However, with the introduction of this new ‘cross border’ payment option, you can now send money through your MTN to any Nigerian. This is a good initiative towards the world of digitalization.

Also, few hours ago, Ghana and Rwanda signed an MoU to implement a Licence Passporting Framework and Cross-Border Payment Interoperability.

Naira Appreciates further to N1382 per Dollar as Presidency Warns Speculators

In a remarkable turn of events, Nigeria’s currency, the naira, has made a further impressive leap, as it appreciates to N1,382 per dollar on Thursday.

This development, as reported by the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), signifies a significant appreciation of N154.48 from its previous position of N1,536.83.

Such a substantial gain marks a pivotal moment for the naira, which hasn’t seen such positive momentum in a considerable period.

This financial milestone arrived on the heels of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s announcement that it had successfully cleared $7 billion worth of valid foreign exchange claims.

This move is part of a broader effort to bolster the country’s forex reserves.

Hakama Sidi-Ali, the CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, highlighted this achievement in a statement, emphasizing that the clearance of the foreign exchange transaction backlogs was a key commitment fulfilled by the CBN Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso.

The action aligns with strategies outlined in the previous month’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting, aimed at stabilizing the exchange rate.

The intended effects are multifaceted, seeking not only to curb imported inflation but also to restore confidence in the banking sector and the broader Nigerian economy.

The positive trend didn’t stop at the official market; the naira also saw stability in the parallel market, exchanging at N1,500 to a dollar across various regions including Lagos, Abuja, and Kano.

This stability is a welcome change for many, reflecting a newfound confidence in the naira’s strength.

According to currency traders in Lagos, the exchange rate hovered between N1,500 and N1,520, with expectations of further appreciation in the coming days.

One Bureau De Change (BDC) operator, Haruna Agege, expressed optimism about the naira’s trajectory, advising those holding on to dollars to consider entering the market.

“So if you have dollars at home, it is advisable to bring it out,” he recommended, signaling anticipated further gains for the naira.

This development comes as the presidency issued a warning to speculators betting against the naira, indicating that the tide is turning in favor of Nigeria’s currency.

The concerted efforts by the Central Bank and the positive response from the forex market point towards a period of recovery and strength for the naira.

As the country navigates this new economic landscape, the focus remains on maintaining this momentum and ensuring long-term stability for the naira.

News coming in indicates that dozens of school pupils have been abducted by gunmen in Nigeria. According to report, more than 280 pupils aged between 8 and 15, along with a teacher, were abducted by a group of gunmen on motorcycles. This happened in the north-western town of Kuriga in Nigeria,

The chilling event occurred during the morning assembly around 08:30, sending shockwaves through the community. Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying scene as the armed assailants stormed the school grounds, swiftly seizing the unsuspecting children and staff.

This brazen act of violence is not an isolated incident but rather part of a disturbing trend plaguing the region. Kidnap gangs, commonly referred to as bandits, have wrought havoc across Nigeria, particularly in the north-western territories. Despite efforts to curb such atrocities, the mass abduction in Kuriga serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by these criminal elements.

The governor of Kaduna state, Uba Sani, confirmed the distressing news, revealing that 187 students from a secondary school and 125 from a local primary school were among the missing. However, amidst the despair, there was a glimmer of hope as 25 individuals managed to escape or were released.

President Bola Tinubu expressed his confidence in the rescue efforts and pledged to hold the perpetrators accountable for their heinous actions.
