14,997 teachers upgraded, allowance beneficiaries captured – GES

The Ghana Education Service has disclosed that 14,997 teachers have been upgraded as of July 31, 2021. It added that it intends to increase the number in August 2021.

14,997 teachers upgraded

This was announced by the Director-General of Ghana Education Service, Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa on Friday during stakeholders meeting with Heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the 5 Northern Region.

He further stated that some 41,066 staff of Ghana Education Service (GES) have been captured and paid responsibility allowances.

For the avoidance of doubt, he said data on the said teachers upgraded and those who are to receive allowance have been forwarded to the Regional Directors who have been directed to display them.

The Director-General encouraged staff of the GES who qualify for either upgrading or responsibility allowance to check their respective regions and subsequently to alert his or her office of any challenges thereof.

“Be rest assured that all these staffs involved have been cleared to be upgraded to the appropriate ranks in the Service. “These works began last month and the rest would be added in August 2021”, Prof Amankwa stated.

Teachers allowances captured

Commenting on the intervention allowance because of teachers, he said plans are far advanced for the central government to settle the teachers’ allowances, adding that the delay of the payment should not demotivate them.
