Teen father poisons 10-day-old son at Assin-Praso
A deeply unsettling incident has unfolded in Assin-Praso, located in the Assin North District of the Central Region. In a shocking turn of events, a teen father stands accused of giving poison (weedicide) to his own ten-day-old son, prompting an intensive search by the local police.
As of the latest update, the baby has managed to survive this heinous act and is currently under medical care at the Presbyterian Hospital in Assin-Praso, showing signs of recovery.
The story begins with Ms. Esther Baah, aged 16, the mother of the victim, who, in a desperate attempt to cope with her unintended pregnancy, considered ending her unborn baby’s life. Both she and the father of the child, Godfred Nelson, also known as Paa Akwasi, shared the same distressing idea. Their aim was to relieve themselves from the burdens that parenthood might impose and allow them to pursue their academic aspirations unencumbered.

Following Ms. Baah’s delivery, she had a change of heart and decided to abandon the harrowing notion of ending her baby’s life. The trials and tribulations associated with pregnancy, childbirth, and the looming responsibility of child-rearing had brought a fresh perspective.
However, unbeknownst to Ms. Baah, her boyfriend, Paa Akwasi, who is 19 years old and a Senior High School (SHS) student, remained resolute in his intentions to eliminate their infant using weedicide.
“We both planned to kill the baby to allow us to pursue our education. But the pain and trauma I endured during pregnancy and delivery made me change my mind, but little did I know that my boyfriend still harbored the intent to kill the innocent baby,” Ms. Baah recounted, shedding tears over the tragic situation.
The incident came to light when the infant’s grandfather, Mr. Kwaku Arkoh, observed the baby’s suffering. The baby was found crying uncontrollably upon the mother’s return from the bathhouse. Alarmed by the foamy substance in the baby’s mouth, the liquid stains on the child’s clothes, and the vomiting, they immediately rushed the infant to the hospital. Medical examination revealed the baby had been poisoned.
In a shocking twist, Paa Akwasi fled the scene upon learning of the unfolding events, leaving behind a heart-wrenching tale of betrayal.
The mother of the suspect, Afia Tawiah, expressed her deep dismay and frustration over her son’s actions, pleading for his arrest to face the full consequences of the law. She could not comprehend what could have driven him to attempt such a horrendous act on his innocent child.
This deeply troubling incident has shaken the community and underscores the need for awareness and support in addressing the underlying issues surrounding teen pregnancies and parental responsibilities.
