The GRA Proposal to Extend the SML Contract is Denied by Akufo-Addo.
The contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilization Ghana Ltd. (SML) should stay suspended, according to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (RA) asked him to provide permission to keep the surveillance system SML had built and was using, but he turned it down. The GRA had wrote the president to request that the agreement be kept in place.
The President has denied GRA’s request, according to a statement from Jubilee House, and has ordered that the status quo—that is, the suspension of contract performance—remain in place until the audit is finished and KPMG submits its audit report.

The President has extended the time for KPMG to audit the transaction, according to a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency.
As a result, Friday, February 23, 2024 has been chosen as the revised date instead of the original Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
The modification came about as a result of KPMG’s request to the President to extend the two-week timeframe that the business was initially granted to complete the assignment.

He said, “The President has denied GRA’s request and has directed that the status quo, with respect to the suspension of the contract’s performance, should remain in effect until the audit’s completion and, subsequently, KPMG’s submission of the audit report.”
