Urgent! ECG advises CLOU customers to purchase enough credit.
All CLOU clients are advised to purchase adequate credit by the Electricity firm of Ghana ECG, since the firm plans to perform emergency maintenance on the server of the CLOU Prepayment Metering System.
On Tuesday, January 24, ECG announced that the maintenance work will start on Thursday, January 25, at midnight and end at 10:00 am on Friday, January 26, 2024.

The people who utilize remote to control their prepaid meters are the CLOU clients.
It is anticipated that the operation would have an impact on the following areas: Korle-Bu District; Ablekuma District; Nsawam District; Amasaman District; Bortianor District; Tema North and South Districts; Ashaiman District; Krobo District; Nungua District; Afienya District; Koforidua District; and Kibi District.
“The inconvenience caused to affected customers is deeply regretted,” the statement continued.

ECG has also informed the general public that the Value Added Tax(VAT) on residential electricity consumption above the lifeline category has not been implemented.
The company in a statement dated January 22, 2024, admonished all stakeholders to comply with the previous payment model.
The yet-to-be-implemented VAT on electricity consumption according to the government would be used to clear off debts owed to independent power producers.

It will be recalled that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta in a letter dated January 1, instructed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) to apply a VAT to residential customers exceeding the maximum consumption level for lifeline units.

The controversial 15 percent VAT imposed on electricity consumption is one of the government’s COVID-19 recovery programs aimed at generating revenue for the state.
