Transport fares to reduce by 15.3% effective 19th December

Transport fares to reduce by 15.3% effective 19th December, 2022 per the announcement by the Road Transport Operators. They have have announced that transport fares will be reduced by some 15.3 % effective Monday, 19th December 2022.
This comes after a 19% upward review of transport fare on 29th October 2022.
This new directive was made public in a press release.
Transport fares to reduce by 15.3 % effective 19th December
The general public may recall that on Saturday 29th October 2022 a 19% upward adjustment in public transport fares took effect after intense negotiations with stakeholders. With the recent reduction in the price of petroleum products, it became necessary to engage stakeholders to give consideration to a review of the fares in line with the administrative instrument.
Consequently, a series of negotiation meetings were held with stakeholders to agree on an accepted level of reduction in fares to commensurate with the current fuel prices.
Following this negotiation and in consideration of the plight of drivers, commuters and the general public the Road Transport Operators have resolved to reduce the existing transport fares by 15.3%.
The new fare takes effect from Monday 19th December 2022. The fare covers the following types of road transport operations
- Shared taxis
- Intercity (Tro-tro)
- Long-distance
- Haulage

The Road Transport Operator has therefore requested all commercial transport operators to comply with the new fare and post same at their loading terminals. It further requested that all operators, commuters and the general public comply and corporate for the successful implementation of the new fares.
