UEW and partners launch project to protect Greater Amanzule Wetlands

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in partnership with Hen Mpoano and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)–Water Research Institute (WRI), has introduced the the project of Integrated Land and Water Management of the Greater Amanzule Wetland System (ILWGAWS).
The initiative seeks to protect biodiversity in the Nzema enclave of the Western Region by measuring impacts in the hydrological systems of the Greater Amanzule Wetlands and their outcome on environmental benefits and human well-being. The project will also introduce climate-smart alternative livelihoods for communities in the area.
The Global Centre is giving financial support to Biodiversity and Climate (GCBC), DAI, and the United Kingdom’s Department for Environmental and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the project aim to enhance climate resilience and eco-friendly resources utilization.
During the launch in Beyin, Professor Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice Chancellor of UEW, declared that the project reflects the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
He said that “The Greater Amanzule Wetland is an ecological treasure that must be protected. This project is a step towards ensuring that conservation efforts benefit both the environment and local livelihoods.”
