Public basic schools in Ghana will be going on vacation soon. The second term of the 2023 academic year is slowly coming to an end. Checkout the second term vacation date for basic schools below.
The academic calendar for both basic schools and SHS 2023 were scheduled in such a way that this year’s academic year will end on 15th September, 2023(the previous format for an academic year). August/September was the actual date of vacation for basic schools, SHS and the end of an academic year before the eruption of Covid-19. Due to the outbreak of this pandemic, the academic calendar for all schools, comprising tertiary institutions were altered to be able to fit in.
The Ghana Education Service is trying its best to bring back the old calendar, that is why pupils don’t have longer weeks in school. Usually the lowest number of weeks for a term in basic schools is 16 or more which is approximately 4 months but this year’s academic calendar has terms which are even less than 12 weeks.
By the end of this year, the academic calendar for basic schools will be converted to the previous. We also hope that the Basic Education Certificate Examination and West African Senior School Certificate Examination dates will be restored as well.
Second Term Vacation Date For Basic Schools In Ghana
Second term of the 2023 academic year began on Monday, 3rd April, 2023 for basic schools. Basic Schools will last 10 weeks and 4 days in school before the second term comes to an end.

Students will be in school until June 15, 2023. They will then break on June 16, 2023 to June 26, 2023; which will be a 10 day break with the third term commencing from June 27, 2023 to September 14, 2023.
