UPSA, The University Where Students Are Lashed Like Slaves (Video)

Ghana Education News has cited two disturbing videos in which University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) students are being ‘lashed’ by other students as though the students were in some slave yard.

In the two disturbing videos cited by this portal, were purported to have taken place at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA)

In both videos, one can see two ladies who are suspected to be students in either level 300 or 400 holding canes or whipping two other students of the university like slaves.

What kind of tertiary institution culture is this that is being portrayed in a University that prides itself as the University of professionalism?

In one of the videos, one of the female students who looked physically bigger lady, angrily dishing out lashes on the diminutive one just before the stairs to another floor. In the process, the abuser questioned the one she was abusing, “Where do you know me from?” in the Twi language.

In the second disturbing video, in one of the hostel rooms of the university, a female student is seen with a can standing while another is seated, arms stretched forward and being lashed for only God knows crime. For a yet-to-be-known reason or crime, the student received at least 5 hash lashes in the palm.

It looks as though the university’s disciplinary system has been breached one more time too many in recent times, and the university is losing its respect and dignity in the public space.

The female student bully has been identified as on Queenstar. She must not go scout free from this high level of indiscipline she might have inherited from secondary school and carried to the universality. From the look of this, Queenstar’s abusive behaviour might have gone on several times and years unnoticed and there may be others like her in the university who have turned other students into items of abuse and disrespect.

Twitter has been buzzing with so much information about the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) students being ‘lashed’ by other students. No matter what the issue was, other students on campus sharing the same hall or room with other students have no moral right to ever treat them like animals, as was the case in the said videos.

It is, however, unclear what the motivations for these actions by these ladies were, but in another tweet by @OneKeys, he showed a video of a car driving into a compound.

According to this account user, the Vice Chancellor of the UPSA, Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey (believed to have been in that car), had intervened.

“Update on the UPSA issue, the Vice Chancellor just came to pick up the small girl to go meet the other girl at Hostel C… I learned the bully’s name is Queenstar, she go make busy waa,” the caption on the video said.
