Provision for Candidates with Special Educational Needs
In line with its commitment to inclusivity, WAEC has implemented measures to accommodate candidates with special educational needs. Schools and relevant authorities are urged to submit requests for access arrangements for such candidates, along with accompanying medical reports, within the stipulated registration period. Timely submission of these requests is imperative, as the Council will need sufficient time to make appropriate test accommodation arrangements.
Inspection of Schools
As part of its efforts to uphold test integrity, WAEC has conducted inspections of schools seeking accreditation to present candidates for the examination. Accreditation has been granted to a number of these schools, rendering them eligible to participate in the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024. However, WAEC cautions accredited institutions to strictly adhere to registration and examination conduct guidelines. Any breach of these rules may result in disciplinary action by the Council.
Revised Examination Rules
WAEC emphasizes the importance of adhering to the revised Rules and Regulations governing its examinations, which have been in effect since 2023. These rules address various forms of misconduct, including but not limited to:
(i) Displaying inscriptions on the body or clothing
(ii) Sharing live examination questions on the internet
(iii) Hindering timely access to school premises
(iv) Misconduct by examination officials
(v) Instances of multiple candidate registrations
The updated rules are readily accessible on the Council’s website, and Heads of schools are urged to ensure that candidates are well-informed about them. Ongoing sensitization efforts aim to raise awareness among stakeholders about the importance of compliance with these regulations.
Conclusion
WAEC appeals to all stakeholders to facilitate a seamless registration process and to register only eligible candidates for the examinations. This collaborative effort is crucial for the successful administration of the examinations and the timely release of results. Stakeholders are encouraged to play their part in upholding the integrity and credibility of the WASSCE.
