WAEC awaits ¢118m to complete post-WASSCE for School activities
The not-for-profit-making organization (WAEC) following the just-ended West African Senior School Certificate Examination says it is awaiting GH¢118 million from the Ministry of Education to complete post-WASSCE for School activities.
In a statement, WAEC said a portion of the outstanding balance of GHC 118,000,000.00 will be used to repair breakdown scanners used for scanning the objective cards of the students who participated in the WASSCE.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) indicated that scanning of the objective cards which was scheduled for November 1 to November 30, 2024, is yet to be completed due to the breakdown of scanners used for the process.
“The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHC 118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education for the repair of the scanners to enable the scanning process and other post-examination processes to continue smoothly,” it said in the statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi.
WAEC has also appealed to its cherished examination officials and suppliers to exercise restraint as payment for their services would be made as soon as the needed funds are released from the Ministry of Education (MoE).
“Members of the public are urged to ignore information circulating on Social Media purporting to be dates for the release of results. The results will be released as soon as the challenges being experienced with the post-examination activities are resolved,” the Council added.
The 2024 edition of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), on August 5, 2024, commenced the administration of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates.
The examination successfully ended on Friday, September 20, 2024. The marking of the essays and other practical components of the papers which commenced on Friday, November 7 ended on Friday, November 29, 2024.
