WAEC Briefs Supervisors for 2023 BECE and WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has held a briefing session for supervisors for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The briefing sessions were held from July 24 to 28, 2023, for BECE supervisors and Ghana Education Service (GES) officials, and from July 31 to August 2, 2023, for WASSCE for School supervisors.
The briefing sessions informed examination officials of their role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the examinations. Supervisors were also directed to brief invigilators for the examinations at the various centres.
A total of 447,204 candidates, made up of 211,834 males and 235,370 females, are expected to sit for the 2023 WASSCE for School. The examination will be administered at 834 centres across the country.
A total of 600,714 prospective candidates, comprising 300,323 males and 300,391 females, are expected to sit for the 2023 BECE for School and Private Candidates. The school examination will be held at 2,137 examination centres across the country, while 15 centres will be used for the BECE for Private candidates.
A total of 21 subjects, comprising five core and sixteen electives, will be made available to prospective candidates for the BECE. In addition to the five core subjects, school candidates will be given the option of choosing four electives to make a maximum of nine subjects.

The 2023 BECE and WASSCE will be administered from Monday, August 7, 2023 to Friday, August 11, 2023. However, WASSCE has already started with practicals while the main papers will be written after the BECE and end in September 2023.
