WAEC denies claim of relocating headquarters to Nigeria over debt
The management of the not-for-profit-making organization (WAEC) has denied rumours indicating plans are underway for its headquarters currently based in Ghana, Accra to be relocated to Nigeria.
The relocation of the West African Examinations Council headquarters from Accra to Nigeria a media report said is due to the not-for-money institution’s accumulated debt of GH¢73 million over the past eight years.
But, speaking to Accra-based Citi FM in an interview, the Head of Public Affairs at West African Examinations Council, John Kapi, said no such decision has been made by the management of the organization.
“There hasn’t been any discussion in this direction. So the law that established WEAC indicates that the headquarters of the WEAC will be situated here in Accra.
Ever since there has not been any change to that. So, I guess that we cannot confirm that we have not had any such discussions and there are no plans as such,” the Examinations Council Public Relations Officer (PRO) said.
In a related development, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has projected the second week of December to release the provisional results of the students who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“We were looking at the second week of December, so at least between the 9th and the 15th of December, we are sure that we will be able to release the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School results
But as we speak, lack of funds could jeopardize this and could make us move the release date forward,” the West African Examinations Council spokesman told the host of Citi FM’s Eyewitness News Show, Umaru Sanda Amadu.
The 2024 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School which started on Monday, August 5, 2024, with the administration of Visual Art Project work ended on Friday, September 20, 2024.
