WAEC to probe 2022 WASSCE maths questions ‘leakage’
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, the management of the Examinations Council disclosed questions of the 2022 WASSCE Mathematics (elective) paper 2 and Mathematics (core) paper 2 were shared in the public domain.
“With respect to Mathematics (Elective) Paper 2 and Mathematics (Core) Paper 2 however, reports were received of some handwritten extracts of some questions on monitored platforms,” WAEC stated in a blog post on its website.
To ensure the credibility of the results for the Elective and Core Mathematics WASSCE papers, the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) noted various internationally accepted assessment procedures would be deployed.
“The Council would deploy various internationally accepted assessment procedures to guarantee the credibility of results for the two papers. Investigations are ongoing and any further developments will be communicated” it added.
Commenting on the WASSCE questions leakage, the organization said it observed that some unscrupulous individuals took snapshots of the papers during the examination and forwarded them to some Telegram channels for solutions.
Following tip-offs and reports of a cheating syndicate in some Senior High Schools partaking in the 2022 Ghana version of the international examination, WAEC indicated caution letters have been sent to more than 30 schools.

The management of the Senior High Schools (SHSs) have been cautioned that their schools/centres would be derecognised if malpractices were reported in those places during the examination,” the Council noted.
Amid the reports, WAEC has appealed to supervisors and invigilators to be guided by the rules of the examination, saying they should be vigilant, refrain from taking their mobile phones into the exams hall and carry out their duties as expected.
Administered to 422,883 candidates made up of 203,753 males and 219,130 females from 977 Senior High Schools, the 2022 August/September WASSCE which commenced on August 1, 2022, will end on September 27, 2022.
