I’ll restore automatic recruitment of nurses if elected president – Mahama
Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to reinstate automatic recruitment for nursing trainees if elected president again in the 2024 election.
Speaking to students at the Ntotronso Nursing and Midwifery College in the Ahafo Region, Mahama also promised to review the current nursing trainees’ allowance system to address their concerns.
“I know all the problems you have with your allowances and everything and we are going to come and make things better for you. We are going to come and restore automatic posting so that when you come out of school, you can get a job as quickly as possible
And your younger brothers and sisters who are going to come after you, when they come to the first year, they are not going to pay any school fees,” the former president told the nursing trainees.
John Mahama further pledged to continue with the construction of ongoing hospital projects to create employment opportunities for nursing graduates and therefore urged the students for the NDC come December 7.
“We are going to continue all the hospitals that are being built so that we can employ as many of you as possible. And so, as I have explained to your patron, I will create a proper programme and come and speak to you
But for now, I said I cannot pass you by. I wish you very well. Make sure that you keep your voting cards well on 7th December, vote for a change and vote for the 24-hour economy,” the flagbearer of the opposition NDC party said.
In a related development, a delegation from the Ministry of Health and Wellness-Barbados and Queen Elizabeth Hospital-Barbados have arrived in Ghana as part of processes leading to the recruitment of registered nurses from Ghana by the Government of Barbados.
