We Are Not Against Demonstration – Ghana Police

The Ghana Police Service has released a statement on the just ended demonstration organized by Democracy Hub Group. In the statement, the Ghana Police Service clearly stated that it is not against Demonstration in Ghana. They added that the service has a track record of providing security to demonstrators in the country.
“Following the end of the three-day demonstration by the above-mentioned group, the Police would like to express gratitude to members of the public, especially those in Accra, for their support and understanding while we worked within our mandate to maintain law and order during the demonstration.
We would like to assure the public once again, that the Service is not against any person or group of persons who may want to demonstrate. We have a track record of providing security for demonstrations in the past and would continue to do so within the confines of the law.” The police said in its statement.
It could be recalled that during the demonstration, the Ghana Police Service, led by IGP Akuffo Dampare, met with the leaders of the Democracy Hub group.
Ghana Police Service, through IGP Dampare, made it clear to the leaders of the group that they are not against demonstration in Ghana. However, the location that was picked by the demonstrators was a security zone. The Police charged the leaders to do the needful next time.

The leaders of the demonstrators also assured the Ghana Police Service that they will speak to their members to see if they are ready to change the venue of the demonstration.
Aside this, the leaders again promised the police that its members will be made to leave the street as they look for alternative venue or otherwise.
