The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclosed exactly what BECE candidates and schools must do if their 2026 BECE results have been withheld/cancelled. Cancelled BECE results are all results that WAEC has nullified, while those withheld are the results that WAEC intends to investigate before making a final decision as to whether to release them or to cancel them.

WAEC cancelled some 601 individual results. This means that WAEC cancelled the entire results of these candidates for engaging in examination malpractices that merited the action. Another set of students numbering 167 had their entire results withheld by WAEC for investigations.

The council further confirmed that the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny. This means that for these candidates, while some of their results were released, results of some subjects will have to be investigated by WAEC before a final decision can be made.

WAEC applied the same whip on private BECE candidates who sat the 2026 BECE. It disclosed that results of nine (9) private BECE candidates have been withheld for further scrutiny due to suspected collusion detected during the marking exercise.

For schools, parents, and candidates whose results match the above details, there is the need to visit WAEC’s dedicated site for checking for the exact offense the student has been charged with by WAEC.

Candidates and schools are expected to enter their exam details on the WAEC irregularity portal. This will reveal the full details of the offense and the date assigned the candidate to attend WAEC’s investigation of the candidate.

Candidates whose results have been withheld should visit https://irreg.waecgh.org and click on the withheld/cancelled button on the home page. They will be redirected to the irregularity and investigations page. This page will display reasons for withholding the results. The candidates will receive information on the next line of action.
