Who In Government Is Behind This Utter Cruelty – Okudzeto On Military Withdrawal From Mepe
“Who in government is behind this utter cruelty” were the kind of questions asked by Okudzeto Ablakwa following the reports that military men who were placed in Mepe to ensure the safety of citizens were withdrawn.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah, expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation, asking, “Why are they doing this to us? We are also Ghanaians? We are human beings? I mean nobody is a second-class citizen in this country. Why are they recalling the military? Why should they be doing that? I can’t believe what is going on,” he lamented to Naa Ashorkor.

He subsequently tweeted, questioning, “Who ‘above’ has given orders to the military detachment helping us cross flood waters to immediately withdraw when the water levels haven’t receded and when thousands of lives are at stake in camps across these waters? Who in government is behind this utter cruelty?”
Meanwhile, the North Tongu legislator has announced that he has received fresh information about a new decision to reverse the order. He tweeted, “I just received a call indicating that the order has been reversed, and that the soldiers have been directed to return with their boats and resume duty.”
He also added the person who behind this order will surely be fished out.
“Soon, we shall fish out those faceless, unpatriotic elements” he added
Akosombo Dam was spilled to allow the flow excess water in the dam. However, this spillage ended up destroying several properties in the Volta region, especially Mepe.
As of Thursday, October 12, 2023, the water level in the dam is 276.92 feet, that is, 84.405 meters. Before the leak, the water level was 272.50 feet or 83.058 meters.

The VRA is overflowing the dam because the water in the reservoir has reached the safe operating level for this time of year and the water must be drained from the reservoir to make room for the water flow. If not, water may overflow from the pond and affect its integrity. Question 2. Why does VRA need to splash water from electricity generation?
All existing rooms are now used to generate electricity, but the water entering the reservoir is still higher than before, so electricity generation alone cannot eliminate all the water. If the spill is not contained immediately, water could overflow the dam and cause uncontrollable damage to downstream communities.
