Will the 2025 BECE be written in June or July? This is the big question people are already asking ahead of the WAEC-administrated BECE for 2025.

In 2024, the examination was held in July but before that, it had been organised in November from 2021 to 2023 due to COVID-19 and its aftermath.

The table below shows the last 10 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) dates from 2015 to 2024:

A careful check by the Ghana Education News team shows that the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service have projected that the WAEC will organise the examination in June 2025. It added that the 2026 BECE will also be organised in June 2026.

In the same document, the calendar released by the GES showed that WASSCE will be held in July/August 2025 and in May/June 2026.

This will help return the country to the pre-Covid-19 era academic calendar at all levels.

What is the projected exam date for June 2025 BECE?

Over the past decade, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has administered the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the first week of June in 2017 and 2018 only. All other BECE’s administered by WAEC have been held in the second week. This is shown below with the two years in red and the other June BECE years with exam dates in week two of June in blue

2015: June 15 – June 19
2016: June 13 – June 17
2017: June 5 – June 9
2018: June 4 – June 8
2019: June 10 – June 14
2020: June 15 – June 19

Based on this, which shows more June examinations for BECE candidates are held in week two of June, we project that the BECE will be held in week two of June 2025 from 9th June to 16th June, 2025.
