Your Mock Results Can Predict Your 2022 BECE Result: Find Out How

BECE 2022 candidates are preparing for the Junior High School leaving examination to be administered by WAEC in October 2022. To a large extent, the Mock Results of BECE candidates can be used to predict the likely results of the candidates.

Based on experience, a candidate’s mock outcomes such as the last three or two results can help predict the range within which the results of the main examination will fall.

For some range of Mock results or students, the BECE results could range between +1 and -1 thus for most candidates who score 06 to 09 in the results of their Mock examination, for others it could be between the range of +2 and -2 and so forth. The accuracy of the predicted results is influenced by many factors, including whether schools and teachers are actually marking scripts very well and awarding the actual scores obtained without massaging the figures to give parents better-looking results and grades.

Again, if the questions set for candidates during the mock are not at least standard, the chances that the candidate’s final results will not be closer to what he or she was obtaining in the mock becomes high. Where the mock exam questions are standard or tougher and the candidate works hard before and in the mock hall, the chances of the main results being nearly the same as his or her mock performance is high.

The above analysis is based on the writer’s experience as a teacher and school administrator for over 20 years.

What a 2022 BECE Candidate’s Mock Results Can Tell of BECE Result

Now let us take a look at the range of results a BECE candidate’s final WAEC grade may fall within using his or her Mock results.

It is projected that BECE candidates who score between 6 ones and 9-ones in their mocks should be able to obtain at least 6-ones in the final BECE examination and with a worse grade of an aggregate of 9.

Candidates who obtain aggregate 7,8, and 9 are projected to obtain the best grade of 6-Ones and a worse grade of between aggregate 9 and 12.

For candidates obtaining an aggregate of 10 to 15, the projected best aggregate at the BECE ranges between aggregate 8 and 13 whiles the worse grade projected is between aggregate 15 and 18.

The full details can be seen in the attached table, which should guide candidates from now to put in the extra effort to obtain grades that are better than or equal to the Best Aggregates predicted. Should candidates fail to work hard and their performance deeps in the examination, the worse scenarios may be the outcome.

Candidates should be assisted by schools and teachers to master the art of answering examination questions in their respective subjects. Teachers need to make conscious efforts to explain how students are to answer questions posed to them in the BECE.

This must include answering questions on the objective tests as well. Students who do well in the objective test end up performing well most of the time.  Candidates who obtain an objective test score of 35/40 or 25+/30 are better positioned to do well than those who throw valuable marks away.

Finally, teachers should make good use of the chief examiner’s reports for 2017 to 2019 to guide their candidates and help them do the right things in answering questions.
