2023/2024 Academic Year: Basic Schools To Reopen On 3rd October

Information reaching ghanaeducation.org indicates that the 2023/2024 academic year for basic schools in Ghana will start on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2023. The first term of the 2023/2024 academic year for basic schools will end in December, 2023.

This was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer at the Ghana Education Service, Mrs Cassandra Twum Ampofoh on Adom TV evening news. The official academic calendar will soon be released by the Ghana Education Service.

The 2022/2023 academic calendar for basic schools will officially come to an end on Thursday, 14th September, 2023. The academic year began in January, 2023 and it is expected to end this week.

Third term of the 2023 academic calendar started on Tuesday, 27th June, 2023. A total of 11 weeks were spent in the school.

This clearly means that basic schools will spend a total of 4 terms in the year 2023.

2023/2024 ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR SHS

The Ghana Education Service is yet to release the academic calendar for all schools. However, it is known the basic schools will resume on 3rd October, 2023. Senior High Schools will officially end their academic year on 30th November, 2023. Most batches have ended their academic year and are currently on vacation. However, SHS 1 students in double track schools will end theirs in November, 2023. The starting date for SHS 2023/2024 academic year is yet to be revealed by the Ghana Education Service.

The Ghana Education Service is doing everything possible to restore the old academic calendar. Due to this, the academic calendar for both basic schools and senior high schools will end early this year. This will help the Ghana Education Service restore the old academic year whereby the academic starts in September or October each year.
